reiterations (2025) is a new title by Jessica Gianelli, produced for the 2025 Photo London Book Market.

Reiterations is an intimate exploration of embodied experience. Juxtaposing familiar symbols of femininity, alongside postures, positions, and displays of both interior and exterior surfaces of the female body, the monochromatic images employ abstraction and objectification as a tool for interrogating themes of femaleness, embodiment and personal freedom.

Where the female nude has been both celebrated and condemned, the images employ an interior gaze turned outwards, allowing reflection to serve as a scrutinizing force against prescriptive tropes of “feminine” performativity.

Drawn to the austerity of the black and white image, the images seek to capture the juncture where what we allow to be beautiful, meets that which we discard as unacceptable, whether that be through the lenses of morality, or respectability.

An allegorising force emerges, using its bumps, wrinkles, and crevices to establish a conversation with those who allow themselves to view it.

Here is a body staring back at you. Does it frighten you?
